The Viola Theatre, originally a Poetic Wine Bar Viola (back in 1960s), holds a unique and enduring appeal for both nostalgic patrons and younger audiences. Its history is rich with significant personalities, fostering a distinct atmosphere that has attracted celebrities on and off the stage. Viola was established as a haven of creative freedom, standing out among Prague’s theaters with its originality and artistic quality. It has evolved into a hub for culturally rich performances, spanning from stage readings to lively cabarets, all while maintaining its commitment to artistic excellence.
The project was assigned without further specification to several teams. The brief was more or less: „Make it nicer“.
The original brand was not managed by any specialist and you could tell. In our three-person team, we quickly realized that this project required a radical change and not just a face-lift. After much thought and several different approaches, we came up with the completely new concept.
We were looking for a unifying element that would combine all elements of the theater into one.
We found it in architecture. Entrance portals are located in each door, so we decided to use these portals as the main graphic element.
Those are a few slides from a deck we presented to the client. We won the competition among other design groups with this concept.
However, there were some changes we had to implement before putting the new brand into life.
After feedback from the client side, we discussed with them what could we do about making the visual according to their ideas. There were 2 main changes.
We changed the colors from blue/red to purple/orange since they wanted to stick with their original purple color. But also we added some new colors so the palette is more variable.
Also, the logo was facelifted. We got more inspired by the iconic sign at the entrance to the theatre.
Our main goal in the coming months is to launch a new website as well as transform the space of the theater itself using new branding.
We also bring innovative ideas to the theater, such as competitions on social networks. At the same time, we are still working on „routine things“ such as social networks or preparing for new performances.
The original school work has become an amazing real project, which is fun and it’s great to see how the theater is transformed for the better.
Our work was so successful that we managed to get to the NáplavKKa 2022 exhibition, where the best students from the University of Creative Communication and Michael Academy exhibit.
Our work was seen by many people, as the exhibition takes place in a very busy place in the center of Prague.
